Interview with Hervé LAURENS, ISIE user
ISIE : a unique tool for managing data at BUT
ABOUT THE COMPANY
BUT, the largest network of household goods shops in France for over 45 years
BUT was founded in 1972 by the Venturini family. BUT is positioned in three main markets:
- furniture and decor
- home appliances
Hervé Laurens (Finance Project Manager at BUT) agreed to talk about his experience implementing the ISIE solution at BUT:
Implementing ISIE gave us greater visibility and autonomy.
ISIE allowed us to capitalise on data and see how the data translate. The tool gives us flexibility in integrating data and helps us be reactive and make changes according to our accounting needs.
ISIE has changed my daily tasks of using and managing data!
The ISIE project
What was the goal of the ISIE project? To replace internal development in order to modernise the till and merchandise sale system.
BUT HAS TRANSFORMED ITS INFORMATION SYSTEM
As part of its shop management project, BUT has replaced its till and merchandise sale system developed in-house with solutions offered on the market.
These applications cover many different financial flows:
- till receipts
- debit cards
- BUT cards
- loyalty cheques
- partner gift certificates
The till and merchandise sale system did not include features for generating accounting entries. So, that raised questions about modelling for accounting entries.
TEDIOUS AND HIGHLY TECHNICAL WORK
Historically, applications developed in-house provided accounting entries in flat files. The text for the entries required technical knowledge to ‘analyse’ and/or ‘correct’ the causes of rejected data.
The audit trail required technical tools to access these big files. As such, managing data related to the interpretation of business-line data into accounting and financial data was tedious.
BUT brought together the Finance Project Management, Finance, and IT departments to choose a data interpretation program available on the market.
THE BENEFITS OF ISIE
BUT chose ISIE as its accounting interpretation software because it is easier to use natively. Its dashboard gives you a comprehensive yet succinct view of data interpretation activities. Managing rejects with its built-in recycling allows you to quickly analyse the causes so that you can take the right decisions (changes to rules, modifications to references, corrections to upstream applications, etc.).
The project was based on workshops: first, choosing how to segment flows, then establishing key items tied to data management. ACA teams quickly implemented settings. They paid special attention to receipt items to reassure the accounting departments that no data would be lost and that business-line data would be properly interpreted.
ACA’s teams always make themselves available and we’ve had a great relationship. Hervé Laurens
Deployment followed the lead of the shop management project. ISIE will interpret business-line flows progressively as deployment takes place.
ISIE has demonstrated its ability to manage different kinds of flows. Flows from expense reports have been naturally integrated into other flows.
ISIE AT THE HEART OF A NEW PROJECT AT BUT
The ‘marketplace’ is the next project for BUT. It will allow the company’s partners to sell merchandise on the BUT website. New flows for commissions and subscriptions will be established, in addition to ‘traditional’ billing and customer payment flows.
BUT hopes to interpret all of its accounting data with the ISIE solution. This coverage will be implemented gradually as projects for changes to upstream business-line and support applications are launched.
